The NAGOMI Damascus VG10 Petty knife 155mm is a useful companion to your main kitchen knife. Its manageable size makes it easy to reach for when slicing fruit, trimming vegetables or preparing a quick meal.
NAGOMI is made by Mitsuboshi Cutlery in Seki, Japan, a city with a long history of blade making. With more than 150 years of experience, the company developed the range around the needs of home cooks, placing importance on cutting performance and practical everyday use.
A Petty knife fills the space between a small paring knife and a full sized chef’s knife. It is particularly useful when you want more control over smaller ingredients, or simply have a few things to prepare.
At 155mm, this model offers more blade length than many smaller petty knives, giving it room to handle slicing as well as detailed work. It makes a practical partner to a gyuto or santoku, keeping smaller tasks comfortable without having to use your larger knife for everything.
Steel and Construction
The blade features a VG10 core within a 33 layer Damascus construction. Mitsuboshi selected VG10 for its sharpness and ability to retain a cutting edge.
The full tang extends through a red laminated wood handle with stainless steel inlay. The flowing blade pattern and deep red handle give the Damascus range its distinctive appearance.
Maintenance and Care
Hand wash with mild detergent and a soft sponge, then dry thoroughly before storing. Do not put the knife in the dishwasher or leave it soaking in the sink. Stainless steel still needs proper care to prevent corrosion.
Use a wooden cutting board and avoid bones, frozen food and other very hard ingredients. Do not twist the blade while it is in the food or use the tip for prying. Maintain the edge with a whetstone when sharpening is needed.
Best for: Fruit, smaller vegetables, trimming boneless meat and detailed preparation.
Kitchen Samurai Ease of Use Rating: Everyday All Rounder. A practical smaller knife to use alongside a gyuto or santoku, with basic Japanese knife care.
