Sharpening Classes

Who are the classes for?

Kitchen Samurai’s sharpening classes aim to teach entry or beginner-level users the fundamentals of sharpening by hand on a whetstone.

The classes are, however, not limited to novice sharpeners; everyone is welcome! We’ve had a lot of friends and family using this as a bonding experience or people who wanted to “sharpen” up their all-around life skills!

What will I learn?

In the classes, we will jump straight into the sharpening process, during which we will also discuss some theory, which includes whetstones, sharpening setup, edge geometry, etc.

The class will mainly contain practical execution. We believe that practice makes perfect.

What do I need to bring?

Nothing. Yes, you read that correctly! We will supply you with:

• A sharpening section consisting of a sink bridge, whetstone and a cloth.
• A dull knife – you will sharpen this 🙂
• Some refreshments for when things get a bit strenuous.

What does it cost?

One seat cost R650. (We can take a maximum of 2 people at our V&A Waterfront store and a maximum of 2 people at our Hyde Park Corner store)

Classes are done at our V&A Waterfront and Hyde Park Corner stores.
