Suehiro Debado LD 200
The Debado LD stones are softer and more “muddy” compared to the Debado S line. The LD 200 is a fast-cutting stone with excellent feedback, making it ideal for sharpening extremely dull or damaged blades. It works particularly well with steels up to about 62 HRC. On harder steels, the stone can feel slightly glassy and less effective. In such cases, or when working on mono-steel bevels (e.g., thinning or single-bevel sharpening), it’s beneficial to create a slurry using the included nagura before sharpening. This stone wears relatively quickly and should be flattened regularly. We recommend pairing it with the Suehiro flattening stone or an Atoma diamond plate. (Suehiro Flattening stone LINK)
The Debado LD 200 is a vitrified, splash-and-go stone, so no soaking is required. When splashing water onto the stone, it may absorb some initially—just add more water until it stays on the surface.

Coarse Grit Stones
A low-grit stone is a crucial addition to your toolkit for knives needing extensive sharpening or for damaged blades with chips and missing tips. Particularly beneficial for single-bevel knives, which often require meticulous bevel setting, this stone ensures swift material removal without causing fatigue. It expedites the sharpening process, enabling a seamless transition through the stone progression.
For seasoned sharpeners handling a high volume of blades, choosing the suitable low-grit stone can significantly impact the efficiency and precision of your sharpening routine.
