The Sakai Kikumori Kurouchi VG10 3 Piece Knife Set combines a versatile chef’s knife, a dedicated vegetable knife and a precise utility knife. Together, the Gyuto, Nakiri and Petty cover a broad range of preparation, from slicing boneless meat and chopping vegetables to trimming smaller ingredients.
The standout feature of this range is its grind. Each blade is thin and carefully finished, allowing it to pass through ingredients with little resistance. That attention to cutting geometry makes the set particularly rewarding for cooks who value clean cuts, fine slices and controlled preparation.
A dark kurouchi finish and textured upper blade give each knife a rustic character. Along the oxidised bevel, a fine, intricate Damascus pattern adds subtle depth to the steel. Pale magnolia handles and buffalo horn collars bring a consistent, traditional appearance to the set.
What’s Included
Gyuto 210mm: The main chef’s knife of the set. Its versatile profile and useful cutting length suit slicing boneless meat and fish, chopping vegetables and preparing larger ingredients.
Nakiri 170mm: A dedicated vegetable knife with a broad, rectangular blade and relatively straight edge. Ideal for controlled chopping, finely slicing vegetables and cutting cleanly through leafy greens.
Petty: A slim utility knife for smaller ingredients and detailed preparation. Useful for preparing fruit, slicing garlic and shallots, and trimming boneless meat.
Steel and Construction
All three knives use VG10 stainless steel, hardened to 60 to 61 HRC. This offers a practical balance of edge retention, corrosion resistance and sharpening maintenance for regular kitchen use.
The blades are made in Seki, Japan. Each profile is laser cut before being ground, finished and sharpened by hand. Sakai Kikumori carries out the handle fitting and quality checks.
The thin grind reduces resistance as the blade moves through food. Each shape brings that refined cutting geometry to a different task, giving you a practical combination for everyday cooking.
Magnolia handles with buffalo horn collars complete the knives, pairing natural materials with the dark steel and intricate Damascus detailing.
Maintenance and Care
Hand wash each knife with mild detergent and a soft sponge, then dry the blade and handle thoroughly. Do not soak the knives or place them in a dishwasher.
Avoid abrasive cleaning pads and metal polish, which can alter the dark oxidised finish and Damascus contrast. The finish may gradually change in appearance with use.
Use a wooden or suitable synthetic chopping board. Avoid bones, frozen food, twisting through ingredients or prying with the tips. These thin edges perform best with light, controlled cutting technique.
Maintain the edges with a whetstone and protect the blades during storage. Keep the magnolia handles away from prolonged moisture and direct heat.
Best for: Home cooks and chefs seeking a coordinated Japanese knife set for general preparation, dedicated vegetable work and precise trimming.
Kitchen Samurai Ease of Use Rating: Everyday All Rounder. Straightforward stainless steel care and three complementary shapes make this a practical set for daily cooking.
