Bunka
Bunka Knife (文化包丁 – pronounced: Bunka Bōchō) literally translated from Japanese means ‘Cultural Knife’. The name stems from the traditional use of making cultural and traditional Japanese cuisine at home.
The Bunka is versatile because of its similarity to the Santoku. It is regarded as a multi-use knife and is best for chopping, dicing and mincing food such as meat, fish, vegetables and herbs. The flat profile is ideal for slicing meat, fish and vegetables. The tall profile is ideal for chopping fruits, vegetables and thinly sliced meat. The pointed tip makes it superior for precision work and scoring vegetables and meat. The tip also allows for light butchering work and enables the user to get under layers of fat and sinew. The blade profile is well suited for tap-chopping or push-cutting techniques.
The length of the Bunka is generally shorter than traditional Western chef’s knives. The shorter, compacted length and thinness of the blade makes it lighter and less strenuous to handle for long periods of time. The tall, flat profile with the reverse tanto is what characteristically defines the blade from other shapes.
Best for: Meat, Fish, Herbs, Vegetables
Kitchen Samurai Ease of Use Rating: All-Rounder – Easy to use and applies to most food types

I bought this knife a while ago, and for the past few weeks I put it to the test in my kitchen, cutting anything and everything I needed to. I am glad to say that it passed the test with flying colours ! The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because fit and finish of the handle could be better, but for the price, I am very satisfied with this Bunka, and I can strongly recommend it to anyone who wants a nice Japanese kitchen knife, but has a tight budget.
This is the fourth knife that I bought from Kitchen Samurai, and each and everytime their service has been outstanding. I ordered this knife online, and 23 hours later it was delivered to my door, neatly packed ! Thank you again for your excellent service !

Good edge retention on the blade. Blade to handle fitment is neat. Blade is slightly thicker than other knives I purchased and the knife is also a bit heavier than others. Love the Bunka design/style!

Bought two of these knives, one for myself and one for my father who absolutely loves cooking but struggles with larger and heavier knives due to suffering a heart attack last year.
He is thoroughly impressed and uses his knife for everything from the softest of fillets to the cracking hard pumpkins and carrots and he glides through it all effortlessly.
Being used to major names as a private chef, I am beyond impressed with the edge and overall finish of the knife. For an entry level knife, this is well worth it’s price tag and I believe these will last for many years.
