The Imanishi Arashiyama stones are unique, combining natural stone powder with synthetic abrasives. The Arashiyama 1000 offers good sharpening feel, good feedback, and a medium-fast cutting speed. It leaves a nicely toothy edge and is particularly good for starting a Kasumi polish.
This medium-wearing stone should be flattened every 2–3 uses. Use a Suehiro flattening stone or an Atoma diamond plate for best results. (Suehiro Flattening Stone LINK)
The Arashiyama is a resinoid, splash-and-go stone. A quick 30-second soak can help with its initial water absorption. If soaked for longer, it should be dried slowly using a damp towel to avoid cracking.
