This whetstone combo is built for full sharpening capability, from repair work through to refined edge finishing.

It includes a complete grit progression starting at 200 grit and moving through 800 to 4000, allowing you to handle everything from edge restoration to finishing. This makes it a far more capable setup for knives that are dull, worn, or in need of more than just maintenance.

This is a versatile, more advanced setup designed to handle real sharpening work, including restoring very dull edges and removing minor chips. The 200 grit stone is coarse and removes material quickly, making it suitable for resetting edge geometry. However, it is not intended for heavy repairs like large chips or broken tips, which require more specialised work.

Instead, this combo excels at complete edge progression, taking a knife from dull to sharp, and finishing it to a clean, controlled edge.

How the progression works

The Suehiro Debado 200 grit is used when a knife is very dull or needs its edge re-established. It removes steel quickly and prepares the blade for further refinement.

The Naniwa Professional 800 grit is the primary sharpening stone. It refines the rough edge left by the 200 grit and establishes a clean, functional cutting edge.

The Tojiro 4000 grit acts as a finishing stone, smoothing and refining the edge to improve cutting performance while maintaining good bite for kitchen use.

Control and consistency

The Naniwa sink bridge provides a stable, elevated platform over your sink, allowing for better water management and a more comfortable sharpening position.

To maintain accuracy over time, the Suehiro 100 grit flattening stone keeps all sharpening stones flat, which is essential for consistent results.

Final edge refinement

The Naniwa leather strop is used after sharpening to remove any remaining burr and clean up the edge. This step improves sharpness and edge stability without removing additional steel.
